Two at-large community member positions have been added to the newly formed Regulation Advisory Committee (RAC) for Las Cruces Public Schools. The work done on behalf of the RAC will be to collect and evaluate feedback from the community to then advise LCPS in the creation of regulation, which outlines specific guidelines and procedures to implement the adopted policy.
Each RAC will consist of a middle and high school student representative, three parents of current LCPS students (one elementary, one middle and one high school), three school administrators from the elementary, middle and high school levels, three current LCPS educators (teachers, educational assistants, or instructional support staff), two district administrative representatives and two community members who do not currently have children enrolled in the district.
The next RAC will be coordinated to review feedback related to policy JBD, Gender Inclusive Schools. Interested parties can submit their name and contact information using this online form. The deadline to apply is Feb. 7, in advance of the Feb. 10 meeting of the District Advisory Council where members of the committee will be selected at random. Participation on the committee is voluntary.
According to district officials, not all policies will require the assistance of an advisory committee. To ensure access for all interested stakeholders, advisory members will be limited to serve on one RAC per school year.
Las Cruces Public Schools is committed to providing transparent opportunities for community stakeholders to provide respectful, constructive, and actionable feedback on policies presented for consideration by the LCPS Board of Education. Aside from the RAC, the public is invited to submit feedback online under the Board of Education page on the district website,
www.lcps.net, or via email to the elected board member in their district. A list of current board members and contact information can be found here.
